Juan Angel Guerra, the Texas DA who indicted both Vice President Dick Cheney and former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales recently revealed the evidence that led him to the indictment in the case that he had codenamed "Operation Goliath". Cheney is accused of responsibility in prisoner abuse because of his financial ties to the Vanguard Group, which invests in private prison companies. Guerra estimates that Cheney has $85 million invested in Vanguard, a financial stake that Guerra says motivated the vice president to halt a 2006 investigation into a prisoner's death. When inmate, Gregorio De La Rosa, Jr., was killed in one of the prisons Vanguard helps finance, Guerra says Cheney stopped the investigation so that the value of the shares he holds would continue to rise.
